Are You Ready for a Diesel Cruze?

Already rated at 37 mpg for highway driving, the Chevrolet Cruze Eco is one of the more fuel-efficient non-hybrid vehicles sold in the United States.   If a recent report by the Associated Press is confirmed, that number could grow significantly with the addition of a diesel engine option, which could challenge hybrid numbers by achieving nearly 50 mpg.

General Motors and other U.S. automakers have been slow to embrace the diesel option, even though top European makers have been offering an increasing number of diesel models with great success in the U.S.  GM already sells a diesel Cruze in Europe and Australia, but the engine would have to be re-engineered to meet U.S. emission standards, a process that could take up to two years. Watch Your Rearview Mirror for Chevy PPV

After extensive study and refinement, the Chevrolet Caprice PPV (Police Patrol Vehicle) is being put into service by law enforcement agencies around the country.

Sheriff Ted Paxton saw the 2011 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV) at several events last year and was impressed enough to be among early law enforcement customers. The PPVs began patrol in Cumming, Ga. in May. Read the rest of this entry »

Books: Camaro: Five Generations of Performance

It took General Motors a couple of years to react to the tremendous success of the Ford Mustang, but they did respond, they did it in style with the Chevrolet Camaro and the pony car battle began.  Author Darwin Holmstrom and photographer David Newhardt have captured the Camaro history from that beginning right up to the dramatic fifth generation.

‘Who makes the Leaf and the Volt?’

Despite millions of dollars of advertising and hundreds of news stories and reviews, a majority of consumers still do not know who builds the Leaf and Volt electric cars.

According to Lindsay Chappell of Automotive News, a recent independent market research study indicated that nearly 70 percent of the shoppers had no idea that the Leaf was a Nissan, and about 55 percent of those in a market for an electric car did not know that the Volt was a Chevrolet. Transforming the Bumblebee Camaro

In celebration of, or to take advantage of, the release of the 3D movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Chevrolet is introducing a Special Edition Camaro Coupe dressed like the movie’s Autobot “Bumblebee”. The 2012 model Transformers” will be easy to spot with its bright Rally Yellow paint and with the optional RS appearance package which features black rally stripes that stretch over the hood, roof, decklid and the unique high-wing spoiler.

“The Transformers franchise has helped introduce Camaro – and Chevrolet – to a whole new generation of fans,” said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. “Its role in the films helped make the Camaro the best-selling sports car in America, and one of the best-known cars of any kind around the world.” Read the rest of this entry »

Chevy Calls for 30-Second Road Trip Films

Filmmakers take note, Chevrolet and MOFILM, a global creative community, are looking for the best road trip film to show as a 30-second spot during Super Bowl XLVI in 2012.

“Road trips provide stories of adventure and freedom – no matter the road or country,” said Joel Ewanick, General Motors global chief marketing officer. “The Chevrolet Route 66 initiative creates a global community for people to express their universal passion for life’s journeys. Chevy Sonic Priced at $14,495

Chevrolet announced last week that the only sub-compact car built in the United States, the Sonic, will have a base price of $14,495, including the destination charge, for the LS sedan and $15,395 for the LS hatchback.  That places the Sonic at $500 more than the Ford Fiesta S sedan and $475 less than the Honda Fit hatchback.

The Sonic is expected to deliver 40 mpg highway with class-leading acceleration when paired with the 1.4L Turbo and six-speed manual transmission. Read the rest of this entry »

Next New Corvette in 2013

The eagerly awaited next generation of America’s sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette, will debut in the fall of 2013 as a 2014 model, according to a Chevrolet source.  Automotive News reported the current model will be offered for the 2012 model year and possibly part of 2013.   The new model, the C7, is expected to retain the front-engine layout, even though earlier rumors had indicated a switch to a mid-engine layout.  Read the rest of this entry »

The High Mileage 2013 Malibu ECO

Chevrolet showed off the next generation Malibu sedan in New York in April and while the styling is not quite revolutionary, the drivetrain is cutting edge making the 2013 Malibu ECO the most fuel-efficient midsize sedan in Chevy’s 100-year history.

The high fuel economy comes in part from the eAssist™ “light electrification” technology which is expected to deliver an estimated 26 mpg in city driving and 38 mpg on the highway without compromising performance. Read the rest of this entry »
