Honda’s 2012 ST1300 Sport Tourer hits the sweet spot when hitting the open road. If like myself, you find that laying over the tank of an all-out sport bike with your upper body weight pressing on your wrists and holding your head up to see where you’re headed isn’t as much fun as it used to be, then you probably ought to start shopping for a multi-purpose Sport Touring bike. There are lots available in today’s motorcycle marketplace to choose from, but after riding the Honda ST 1300, you may not feel the need to look any further.

In the world of compact sport utility vehicles, the Honda CR-V has been one of a handful of vehicles that have earned their place as icons of the category because they best fill the needs of the shoppers.  As we see it, the group would include smaller SUVs like the Toyota RAV-4, Subaru Forester, Ford Escape, Kia Sportage and perhaps a few others.  However, by the numbers, the previous generation CR-V was the bestselling compact SUV from 2007 through 2010, before the market got weird.

The CR-V leadership position came from class innovation, reasonable performance, good styling and an overall solid product.  To improve on those characteristics, the fourth generation, which started rolling into Honda dealerships recently, was challenged to show significant improvements in order to maintain its position in the pack.  That’s a tall order, especially with the advancements we’ve seen from many of the competitors. “ Honda’s CR-V for 2012 gains refinement and new look”

Honda has long made it a practice to not rush into anything unless it shows a great deal of promise, and even then, the road to development is one of measured restraint. There are several cases in Honda’s past history to illustrate this fact, but simply stated, Honda rarely makes wholesale changes to vehicles that they manufacture, employing an evolutionary rather than a revolutionary philosophy in their approach to development.

If history repeats itself, the striking new Honda Accord Coupe concept shown recently at the Detroit and Chicago auto shows should be a close rendition of the final product when it arrives at dealerships in the fall.

Described as athletic and muscular, the exterior has a distinctive wedge shape and complex sculptured sides.  The front has a revised four-sided honeycomb grille and deeply set multi-reflector headlights. The rear taillights sweep around to the side panel for better visibility and a trunk -lid spoiler follows a natural extension of the sculpted sides.  The rear end is finished with large exhaust finishers on either side of a rear grille.

This ninth generation Accord coupe is available with two all-new powertrains including Honda’s new Earth Dream a 181-hp, 2.4-liter i-VTEC® four-cylinder direct injection engine.  The engine is mated with either a six-speed manual transmission or new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).             The current compact market is at the top of its game with innovative, aggressive car companies producing an amazing selection of affordable sedans and coupes.  With nearly 9 million vehicles sold since 1972, the Honda Civic has become the icon of the segment and each new generation has brought forth cutting edge designs and innovations.  With this kind of competition at play, we anticipated that the ninth generation Honda Civic would be a head turner, or a technological marvel.  We expected to be WOWed by the latest Civic, but our initial reaction was “nice.”   Read the rest of this entry »
