Test Drive: Range Rover Evoque

Vancouver, BC – I like going to new vehicle launches because I get to talk to the engineers and designers of the new vehicle plus its nice to see my auto writer friends and travel to interesting places.

Land Rover picked one of my favorite cities, Vancouver, B.C., for the launch of the new Range Rover Evoque.  Our drive route would take us from downtown Vancouver, BC to North Vancouver then north on highway 99 to the Whistler Ski Resort.  I have driven the route on many other vehicle launches and even on vacation.  It’s a magnificent drive with great views of the Canadian mountain peaks and beautiful Howe Sound.  The only problem with the drive is the Lions Gate Bridge, which crosses the narrows of Burrard Inlet to North Vancouver.  The bridge and the road leading to it through Stanley Park is only three lanes wide and traffic always backs up. Sea to Sky Adventure tests mettle of new compact Range Rover

Vancouver, B.C., Canada – Land Rover just launched its newest Range Rover model – the 2012 Evoque. The Evoque is based on the futuristic and stylish LRX concept vehicle, which recently made the rounds of several International auto shows, drawing high praise and wide acclaim from both automotive journalists and the public. Unlike many concept-based production vehicles, the compact Evoque remains remarkably true to its original concept design.

Land Rover pasted the MSRP sticker on the window of the all-new 2012 Range Rover Evoque and announced the EPA fuel economy numbers.  Taking the Range Rover on a new road than previous legendary off-road models, the Evoque is the smallest, lightest most fuel efficient Range Rover ever produced.

Evoque will be offered in a five-door version with a base price of $43,995, including the destination charge or a three-door coupe starting at $44,995. The EPA estimates fuel economy at 19 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway from turbocharged four-cylinder engines. Read the rest of this entry »

Test Drive: Land Rover Range Rover Sport

A Great Highway Cruiser that Climbs Rocks, Too.

There are certain vehicles we get to drive that we’d love to just keep in our garage on a more permanent basis.  The Range Rover is a perfect example.  We do have a little disagreement on which model, however.  Barbara’s favorite is the top of the line Range Rover because she likes the luxurious appointments, elegant styling and substantial feel, while Bill prefers the Range Rover Sport which is smaller, more sporty and agile. A Colorado Land Rover Adventure

Telluride, Colo. — As the small twin-engine prop plane circled on final approach to the Telluride (Colorado) Region Airport, I began to get a sense what the next three days would be like.  Located at 9,070 feet above sea level, this is the highest commercial airport in North America, and about 50 yards to the south of the runway, I saw that the mesa drops more than 1,000 feet to the valley below – frightening and beautiful all at the same time.

The next morning Bob Burns, Land Rover’s chief driving instructor, and the head of our Colorado expedition, began briefing the 16 members of our expedition, telling us we would be driving about 80 miles in two days.  We would be on paved highways for about 15 miles and the rest would be dirt, rock and an occasional stream.  What he failed to say was that the last couple of miles of the trip we would be dropping about 2,000 feet down the face of a cliff. He said/She Said: 2010 Land Rover Range Rover

She – Driving down the freeway in the Land Rover Range Rover the other day we started to discuss the virtues of spending $90,000 on an SUV.  Being a person who likes to get a lot of value for my dollar, I had to admit if I had that much money to spend on a vehicle, I would more than likely buy two really nice vehicles, rather than this one very posh sport utility.

On the other hand, if I could afford a Range Rover, why shouldn’t I have the best? Read the rest of this entry »

Range Rover Autobiography Gives you more than a house for the same price!

Land Rover has completed its acclaimed line-up for 2010 by presenting its  exclusive new Range Rover Autobiography at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

The Autobiography is a new twist on an old idea – the bespoke car. The name comes from a time when a wealthy buyer would contact an automaker and describe the car he or she wanted, and then the automaker would build it to the buyer’s specifications. There was no ordering from a limited set of standard options – everything was custom-made. Read the rest of this entry »
