VW Claims Up to 186 Miles on a Single Charge

Whether you called it the VW Microbus, Volkswagen Van or the Bulli as it was called in Germany, the world’s first van has returned to the Geneva Auto Show as a concept, only with some surprising changes.

Rumors: VW in NASCAR?

AutoWeek magazine is reporting that Volkswagen is considering jumping into stock car racing by the middle of this decade.  The magazine says a NASCAR official has confirmed a meeting is scheduled with VW in January.  The move could be an element in  Volkswagen Chairman Martin Winterkorn’s effort to become the world’s largest auto company by 2018.

Volkswagen confirmed plans to bring the European version of the Golf R to the U.S. in 2012.  The high-performance R model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 256-hp,  which makes it the most powerful Volkswagen sports performance vehicle ever built.  The R is equipped with the 4th generation Haldex 4Motion all-wheel drive system, larger brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels and upgraded sport-tuned suspension. VW Offers Fans A Chance To Appear On TV During World Cup Soccer Finals

Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced today a nationwide contest calling on soccer “fanaticos” to express their passion for the game for a chance to win an appearance in a national TV spot during the World Cup.  As a long time global supporter of soccer and sponsor of Univision’s broadcast of the World Cup, Volkswagen, together with soccer legends “Ramoncito” Morales, former captain of Chivas de Guadalajara and Ramon Ramirez, one of the best players in the history of Mexican soccer, are encouraging soccer fans to create and upload their own “fanistitial” videos documenting their passion for soccer.   Beginning today, consumers can upload videos to the Volkswagen Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/vw, where several lucky winners will be chosen to appear on a prime-time Volkswagen television commercial to air on Univision during the World Cup.

Volkswagen Buys Italdesign Giugiaro

With the importance of strong automotive design and development, Volkswagen has purchased at 90.1 percent share in the famous Italian design company, Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A.

This was announced by both companies at a joint press conference in Turin on Tuesday. The Volkswagen Group will take a 90.1 percent stake in IDG, including the brand name rights and patents. The shares are being acquired by AUDI’s Italian subsidiary Lamborghini Holding S.p.A. The remaining shares will stay in the possession of the present owner family Giugiaro. 2013 Volkswagen Golf, Batteries Included

Volkswagen chairman, Martin Winterkorn, confirmed the company will sell a zero-emissions, plug-in electric Golf beginning in 2013.  The car called the Golf Blue-E-Motion is part of the VW electric vehicle strategy that also includes a small city car called the Up Blue-E-Motion.  A 115-hp electric motor, mounted in the engine compartment will drive the front wheels through a new, single speed gearbox.  The electricity for the motor is stored in a 26.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack mounted in the middle tunnel of the floorpan under the rear set and in the floor trunk.  VW says the electric Golf a 93-mile range.
